1950 Bentley MK VI

It is with deep sadness that we report that our very first vehicle that founded British Motor Coach in 1987 — the 1950 Bentley Mark VI — along with two other vintage vehicles have been destroyed in a terrible building fire. The Bentley, along with our 1960 Black & 1962 White Rolls-Royce Silver Clouds are among the three destroyed by fire. We are in the process of acquiring 1-2 new vintage vehicles to replace these lost vehicles and will update our website once completed.

The Bentley Mark VI is a full-size luxury car that was produced by Rolls-Royce between 1949 and 1955. It was the first Rolls-Royce car to be offered with a factory built body which it shared, along with its chassis, with the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn until 1952 and then the Bentley R Type until production finished in 1955.

This was the first “post-war” Bentley produced after World War II. It was thought to be have been designed in around 1937. Because of metal rationing during the war, the car was put on hold and the first model was actually built around 1947-1948. A mere 760 were produced between 1949 and 1955.

British Motor Coach started in 1987 with this car, so it is not only the most vintage car in our fleet, it is also the car that has been in our fleet the longest, too.
